The Wattenberg Field is one of the largest oil and natural gas fields in the United States and the area has lead production within Colorado’s DJ basin since the late 1970’s.
Apollo Operating is pursuing drilling opportunities of Codell and Niobrara oil and gas wells in Larimer and Weld Counties. Cretaceous aged deposits cover large portions of the Eastern Plains of Colorado. These rock formations are tight sands and shale that collectively produce both oil and gas, which are typically stimulated with hydraulic fracturing. These low-risk unconventional wells have a high percentage of successful hydrocarbon recovery.
In recent years the implementation and success of horizontal drilling on a large scale has vastly changed the O&G industry in Wattenberg. Broad changes to spacing rules and well density from the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission rule 318(a) allows for a larger number of well configurations which adds to the economic viability of drilling exploration and development in the area.
